Pokemon X and Y Gym Leaders

The Pokemon X and Y Gym Leaders will play an important part in Pokemon X and Y game play. The following are the confirmed Pokemon X and Y Gym Leaders and Pokemon X and Y Badges .

Viola : Bug Type Leader
Santalune City

Viola is the first female bug type gym leader and specialist. She will battle you with a level 10 Surskit and a level 12, fully evolved Vivillon.

 

The bug type is weak to flying, rock and fire type Pokemon. Surskit is a water/bug Pokemon, so be wary if you selected Fennekin as your starter Pokemon, as its water can offset the fire attack and deal some serious damage.

Satalune City had a trainer willing to trade you a Farfetch’d, which knows the move Aeriel Ace. This can be very helpful at defeating both of Viola’s Bug Type Pokemon.

 

Upon winning, you will earn your first badge and TM83, Infestation, a new Bug type move.

Grant : Rock type leader

Cyllage City

 

It takes quite a bit of time and effort to finally reach the point of having your second gym battle. Grant is all about physical therapy and will meet you outside of his arena after competing in a race. You will have missed the race, so he gives you Strength as a consolation prize. You can’t use it though, until you have beaten Grant in battle. The inside of his arena is that of a rock wall that must be scaled to the top.

 

After working your way to the top you get the pleasure of fighting his two rock type fossil revived Pokemon. If you had already gone to the fossil site, chances are that you already have one of them yourself. Grant uses a level 25 Amaura  and a level 25 Tyrunt.

Amaura is a rock/ice type Pokemon making it extremely weak to fighting type Pokemon.  Tyrunt is a bit more of a hassle since he is a Rock/Dragon type Pokemon. If you have managed to get a dragon type by this point, dragon is weak to dragon.  Ice will also be extremely effective against Tyrunt.

 

After dispatching these revived Pokemon you will be awarded with the Cliff Badge and also given TM80 Rock Tomb.
