Pokemon News:

Mewtwo Strikes Back

After a sudden lack of Mewtwo as a playable character in Super Smash Brother’s Brawl, Mewtwo will be making a return to the Super Smash Brother’s franchise in spring 2015. Gamers who purchase both Super Smash Brother’s 3DS and WiiU will be able to get Mewtwo as a downloadable character.

Mewtwo first appeared in Super Smash Brother’s Melee for the GameCube. He is ranked at the 21st tier, namely for being a slow character, and floating movements. Mewtwo was also so tall, he was unable to crouch low enough to truly dodge any incoming attacks. He lacked a major psychic attack in Melee, his move set containing all physical attacks, despite being a psychic Pokemon. The only psychic move he received was Confusion, which only helped in deflecting projectile attacks.

When Super Smash Brother’s Brawl came out for the Wii, it lacked Mewtwo; and it seemed he was replaced by GenIV Pokemon Lucario. Lucario is 11th on the current tier list, possessing a good aerial set, and a good balance in speed and power. Lucario is capable of using Aura Sphere, Force Palm, and ExtremeSpeed, allĀ of which are useful in a brawl for dealing damage and personal recovery.

Lucario is similar to Mewtwo, in that they’re both bipedal, they’re both capable of speaking in human language, and their use in Shadows/ Aura. Their movements are floaty, and their Up Special Moves are non-damaging. Lucario’s Aura Sphere attack is similar to Mewtwo’s Shadow Ball in the manner it is charged, executed, and how much damage the opponent receives.

Several other Pokemon, Lucario included, out-tiered Mewtwo, yet they kept their position in the franchise. Pikachu holds an 8th B tier, and Pokemon Trainer, containing Squirtle, Ivysaur and Charizard, holds an E 29 tier. Greninja, a GenVI newcomer Pokemon, is mostly not known about, but the franchise still chose him over Mewtwo. Thankfully, for the older players of the games, Mewtwo will be returning, even if he is a DLC.
